Expert training for SEND teaching practices.
At The Somerset SEND Training Hub, we strive to empower educators with the tools and knowledge necessary to create inclusive learning environments. Our mission is to promote diversity and inclusion through tailored training programmes that cater to the unique needs of every learner.
Whilst the training here is delivered by different providers, we all aspire to make sure that you have all the knowledge and confidence you need in your role.
The training will be led by Heidi Humpage, Zoe Crarer and Helen Berryman through our individual business, as well as The Somerset Autism and Communication Team- a consortium of experts in this field.

All centralised training will have impact measures built in to them so that you can show the effect of the training on your school. As part of the training, you will receive some follow up contact from the trainer - to see how it is going and help problem solve any issues you may be having.

Built in to the materials, you will be given will be resources that you can use to pass on the knowledge that you have gained to other members of staff.
Alternatively, all training can be bought for INSET day training if you think that the whole staff team need to be part of it!

Somerset is a large county so we are offering most of the training in Langport which is a central location. We are open to offering training in other areas if there are a group of local schools that wish to attend and a venue to host it in. Why not discuss this at your next Inclusion Network meeting?

We aim to keep our prices simple and competitive. Many of the providers will offer discounts for attendees from the same school.

Increasingly we are welcoming pupils into our schools for whom English is an Additional Language, and this cohort of students often have the same prevalence of SEND as the English speaking cohort. So how can we tease apart what might be causing their difficulty with learning?
In this training we will look at some of the similarities and differences faced by pupils learning in a different language and those for whom English is their first language, and how you can identify whether the difficulty is due to their language or an underlying learning need.

This practical and evidence-informed training is designed for SENCos, and other practitioners involved in SEN Support assessment and intervention. The course explores a range of approaches to identifying numeracy difficulties in children and young people with special educational needs, moving beyond standard attainment measures to consider underlying cognitive and processing factors that impact mathematical learning.
Participants will develop a deeper understanding of how difficulties in areas such as working memory, language, and processing speed can affect mathematical development. The training will introduce a variety of assessment tools and strategies to build a holistic profile of need, enabling more precise and meaningful interpretation of strengths and difficulties.
The second part of the course focuses on translating assessment outcomes into effective support. Attendees will explore targeted intervention approaches alongside practical, classroom-based strategies aligned with inclusive practice. Emphasis is placed on adapting teaching to reduce cognitive load, support conceptual understanding, and promote independence.
